Sustainable Modern Prefab

Treehouse Design is pleased to share its most sustainable project.  Designed and finished by Treehouse, with a shell factory-fabricated by Bensonwood Homes of New Hampshire, this home is an excellent example of creative contemporary design and environmentally conscious construction.  The house runs on energy generated by solar roof panels and solar hot water panels that power an advanced electric air to water heat pump, radiant floors, and ducted heating and cooling.  Electrical use is further minimized with high efficacy LED light fixtures.  The super-insulated 12” thick walls and 14” thick roof panels are packed with blown insulation and sealed with an advanced gasket technology to achieve near passive house standards.

The home’s exterior blends nicely with the vernacular palette (white cedar shingles and light trim), while playful modern accents, such as the flat roof entry tower and green roof deck, reflect the modern interior styling.   The main living level has an open floor plan with cathedral ceilings and exposed Douglas fir post & beam framing, which allows for light filled spaces and panoramic views of the Ipswich Bay and private granite quarry.  Custom interior details include a fir and polished steel staircase and mid-century modern walnut and maple furniture pieces built by Treehouse cabinet makers.
